March 2009

From the Editor's Desk
Greetings dear Sisters in the Lord! I was able to attend a Ladies Conference this weekend that I used to be able to attend yearly. With four children at home, homeschooling, and supporting my husband in ministry I have not been able to go in a couple of years. This year was extra special and I'll tell you why. This year I invited my dear friends, Miss Charlene, her sister Mrs. Fry, and their mother, Grandma Marlene to attend with me. Our Pastor's Wife also serves in the deaf ministry, but was also scheduled to teach at this conference.

A sweet lady of our church offered to sponsor Lady Jess to attend with us to interpret for our dear deaf sisters. I have thanked the Lord multiple times for allowing me to serve Him by serving these wonderful ladies. They have truly been at the top of my life's greatest blessings! In addition to this, it was a genuine joy to see Lady Jess interpret full speaking sessions at the age of sixteen. I am overjoyed that my daughter has been gifted with interpreting for the deaf. It is a tremendous blessing to be able to serve these ladies and to serve them alongside my own daughter.

January 2009

From the Editor's Desk
Happy New Year! It's difficult to wrap my brain around the fact that Growing in Grace Magazine has been publishing for eleven months now! Next month will be our one year anniversary of serving the Lord through writing what He has placed on our hearts. We have given you eleven months of desktops as our gift to you, and we have hosted twenty-one giveaways so far! It certainly has been an exciting year! If you had a list of goals from January of last year I challenge you to take a look at it again and see where you grew and where you can push a reset button for yourself. Maybe you'll want to keep the same goals on your list for this year too.

I wonder how many of you had a prayer list all year and which prayers got answered. Whether or not you got the answer you had hoped for or not, God still answers prayers and we would love to heard how God has worked in your life in 2008. I have had many blessings in 2008 and I am humbled that God would allow me to do so much for Him. I certainly don't feel worthy of serving the Lord, just as John said in Mark 1:7, "And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose." Yet He does choose each one of us to do something special for Him. How has God used you this past year? Now we have yet another year to serve our Lord and Saviour and may He find us willing to serve and may He find us to be a pure vessel to do His work through. It's been a pleasure 'growing in grace' with you in 2008!

December 2008

We are coming to the close of the year 2008, as we enter the last month of the year. It has been nearly a year since we started GGM! Thank you to all of you who have been so supportive! Most of you are probably beginning to redecorate, just as GGM redecorates each month as well. I chose the winter barn as a special gift for Mrs. D, as she enjoys barns so much and I thought the colors were great for this month. You may have expected the traditional greens and reds for this time of year, but even in my own home we celebrate December with patriotic colors. :O)

Some families celebrate different traditions during December and some don't celebrate anything in particular at all. One thing I know we can agree on is that we serve a Mighty God and we just celebrated being thankful for Thanksgiving. We don't find the early Christians celebrating the birth of anyone, but rather they do celebrate Resurrection Day. We don't believe there is anything wrong or sinful with celebrating someone's birthday, but we do need to be careful how we celebrate a person's birthday.

Each of you may honor the birth of Christ in different unique ways and I don't think God would be unhappy for celebrating the birth of His Son. Yet in some of this month's articles we take a closer look at the traditions and culture that our world calls 'Christmas'.

We love our Lord and certainly do honor Him for what He has done for us all these years, for His birth, death, and resurrection. May we all take some time to ponder the origin of some 'holidays' and what those origins represent. We pray that we will agree that we want to bring honor to Christ in the most pure way possible.

We hope you will enjoy the articles, interview, reviews, and recipes in this month's issue and may your last month in 2008 be a month to grow closer to Christ!

November 2008

As I was passing the beautiful Autumn trees in my city this week I couldn’t help but to think about the article Sister Angie wrote a month ago about the leaves changing.

I have pondered this article many times over this past month and as Miss Monica June and I passed yet another gorgeous tree, the thought sprang up again. We talked about those leaves and how Sister Angie described the changes that take place. During this month we have been studying the election process and observing the times of this election in comparison to the Bible.

I explained to Monica about the darkness and cooler temperatures, as Sister Angie described. When Christians go through a time of darkness we see their true colors. If a Christian is true to their faith, then their colors will be more vibrant, showing the contrast between the darkness and the Spirit that shines His Light to show the true colors of those people.

So when the dark times come, what will you look like? Will your life shine bright vibrant colors or will your leaves simply wilt? This election has caused concern among many people both in our nation and abroad. I don’t know if we are entering a dark time in this nation or not, but if we do, are your true colors ready to be seen? You can begin now by committing yourself to pray. However, I want to admonish you to not cease praying once the election is over, but continue therein. This month's theme is that of gentleness. May we show gentleness in all we do and say. (And blog about) ;O)

We pray that our November issue will inspire and encourage you as you study God’s Word with us. Have a blessed Thanksgiving season.

October 2008

The crisp cool air hits my face in the mornings now as I arise to meet another day. The leaves are losing their chlorophyll and bringing us the beautiful gift of color that Autumn brings. We know that Autumn is upon us and winter is coming soon. During these cold upcoming months we will shiver as we open the windows, but we know the spring will come again. We will endure the cold months with the faith that we will soon see and feel and warm sunshine again. This endurance reminds me of the fruit of the Spirit that every Christians should bear in their own lives, the fruit of longsuffering.

We're excited to bring to you our ninth issue of Growing in Grace Magazine! Be sure to leave a comment thanking our writers and our team for the contribution they give to you as they commit themselves each month to prayer and Bible study as they write what God has placed upon their hearts. Our team volunteers each month to give you their time and talent. Our desire is to encourage and inspire you to live a life that is well pleasing to the Lord.

Happy Autumn and may you grow in grace this beautiful season!
