Spring Song

by Mrs. Brown

When barren white renews the land;
When frozen ice comes from Godʼs hand
And all the world in quiet sleeps,
Until spring wakes new from the deeps...

As one, all life holds silent form;
As seasons waken from the storm,
The ceaseless nothing bursts with green
And solid glass becomes a stream.

The breathless still erupts with praise.
The sun stretches her sleepy rays.
The monotone of color breaks
As each hue of the spectrum wakes.

First a chirp, a squeak, a trill,
Then a chorus, an anthem, a thrill.
First a seed, a sprout, a bud,
Then full laughter, full life, full love!

In abundance, our slumber ends;
We bid farewell to winter friends
And rise refreshed and washed with dew
To worship God in strength renewed.

All glory to the Giver of Life,
Who uses even the silence of night
To plant His seed in fertile land
And grow in us all He has planned!
