It is very important to protect kids from harm in every way possible including spiritually, emotionally, physically, etc. I am only going to offer a dozen tips on physical protection.
In Public Places
1. Never let your younger siblings out of your sight.
2. Hold their hands (especially when crossing streets).
3. Never let them go into public restrooms alone.
4. Whenever you are near any significant amount of water, keep a very close eye on them. To read a former GGM article on water safety, go
here.
5. Make sure they do not look at the sun.
6. Make sure they know how to properly relate to strangers (i.e. you don’t hug them or go anywhere with them).
At Home
1. Make sure they know not to touch hot things and do not leave the stovetop, iron, etc. unattended.
2. In addition to stairs, make sure they know not to run up and down steep or wet slopes.
3. Make sure they know not to put any inedible objects in their mouth and keep such things as detergent, medicine, etc. out of their reach.
4. Children five and under should not be given hard candy or gum.
5. Make sure they do not run while carrying sharp objects (i.e. scissors).
6. Make sure noise levels (i.e. music, TV, etc.) are not too high.
What are some things that you do to keep the kids in your family safe?
"I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for Thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety." - Psalm 4:8
